Born in Germany with Spanish-Argentinian roots, Maria comes from a family of political migrants who passed on their passion for questioning the system, as well as their affinity for observing the human condition and indulging in fantastical storytelling.
A certain restlessness must have been inherited too, as after finishing university, Maria decided to pack her bags and dive into the world of film in the UK. Starting out as an AD on a wide variety of sets, including Kingsman, Mary Magdalene, and War Machine, she went on to work at Heyday Films and assist UK super-producer David Heyman on projects such as Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Fantastic Beasts and Marriage Story.
After years of substantial insight into the filmmaking process, which has finally led her to pursue her dream of writing and directing her own fictional content.
Her directorial debut, the short film Motherhood, has been selected for festivals such as the Max Ophüls Festival and the Manchester Film Festival, and won at the Emerging Talent Film Festival London.
She has directed commercial content for clients such as SAMSUNG, BAUHAUS, and STAPELSTEINE.
